A research team led by Prof. Ming Liu from ECE and Prof. Ruoxue Yan from Chemical and Environmental Engineering has developed a new optical technique to improve the efficiency of near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM) probes by orders of magnitude, and used this technique to achieve 1-nanometer spatial resolution in optical imaging. The paper, titled “High external-efficiency nanofocusing for lens-free near-field optical nanoscopy”, is now published in Nature Photonics.
