About Me...

I am Mahmudul Hasan. I was born and rasised in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I obtained my Bachelors and Masters degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). It is the most prestigious academic institution in Bangladesh. After my graduation, I worked as the Research Lecturer at Computer Sicence department of East West University. Currently, I graduated from University of California, Riverside with a Ph.D. in Computer Science in August 2016. Currently, I am working as a Research Scientist in Comcast Labs, Washington DC, USA. I did two summer internships at Metaio Inc. in 2014 and at Comcast Labs in 2015. My main research interests are -
   1. Computer vision - Human Activity Recognition, Object Recognition, Video Description, and Tracking.
   2. Machine learning --Active Learning, Deep Learning, and Reinforcement Learning.

    3.   Continuous Learning of Human Activity Models using Deep Nets
    4.   Incremental Activity Modeling and Recognition in Streaming Videos
  • Motivations Behind My Research

It's true that, processing power of a computer increased tremendously over the last few decades. Yet, it's far beyond the capability of a human brain, specially in visual scene understanding. A human brain can easily comprehend its surroundings and is capable of making quick decisions, which very hard and intractable in many cases even for the super fast computer. My research is driven by these facts and the following question: "How to build a machine with visual capability to the level of a human brain?"
  • My Achievements So Far

My research interest lies in human activity recognition in continuous videos and object tracking in aerial videos. So far, I developed algorithms to detect and recognize human activities in surveillence videos, to track humans and vehicles in unstable aerial videos. Currently, I am working on incremental activity modeling in streaming videos.
