Prof. Ilya Lyubomirsky wins Discovery Grant
Asst. Prof. Ilya Lyubomirsky won a UC Discovery Grant of $84K for his proposal, titled "Quadrature Duobinary for 100G Optical Networks." This one year grant will fund Prof. Lyubomirsky's research on a novel optical communication technique, designed to enable a high spectral efficiency transport of 100-GbE in long-haul fiber optic transmission systems. Prof. Lyubomirsky is collaborating with industry sponsor Infinera Corp. on this research project. Infinera has been a strong supporter of Prof. Lyubomirsky's research at UCR, previously providing $170K in funding via unrestricted gifts.
For more information on Prof. Lyubomirsky's research, please see his
latest paper analyzing the advantages of the quadrature duobinary
modulation format for 100G transmission; a pre-print of the paper can be
found at this link.
