Two of Prof. Abu-Ghazaleh's papers receive news coverage

Riverside, Ca –

Prof. Abu-Ghazaleh co-authored two papers that received wide coverage from technical and academic outlets. The first paper appeared in ASPLOS, the top computer systems research conference, and introduced Branchscope, a new hardware vulnerability in the branch predictor unit similar to the ones that contributed to the recent Meltdown and Spectre attacks. The paper was covered widely by technical news outlets such as Ars Technica and Digital Trends. The second paper looked at implementing hardware malware detectors that detect malware as a computational anomaly. The design uses an ensemble of detectors that are each specialized to a different type of malware. The paper received a research highlight in Nature Electronics.
