EE Graduate Students Formed UCR Chapter of Optical Society of America

2010-10-11-NewsThe Optical Society of America (OSA) has approved a student chapter at the Bourns College of Engineering at UCR (UCROSA), thanks to the efforts of founding chapter president Craig Nolen and fellow Ph.D. students in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Javed Khan serves as the chapter vice president and secretary while Pradyumna Goli, MSEE graduate and Ph.D. student in the Materials Science and Engineering (MS&E) Program, serves as its treasurer. Nolen is also the BCOE academic affairs officer in UCR Graduate Student Association. Nolen and Khan, both BS graduates of the Department of Electrical Engineering, currently work as graduate research assistants in the Nano-Device Laboratory (NDL) of Professor Alexander Balandin, who helped the students in founding the OSA chapter and serves as its faculty advisor (the founding members of UCROSA are pictured above left). Membership in the chapter is open to all interested students. The membership offers a number of benefits, including possibilities for the conference travel support for students. UCROSA plans a number of activities in the coming year. Interested students should contact Craig Nolen at ucrosa@engr.ucr.edu for more information.
