Electrical Engineering PhD candidate Samia Subrina received the third place award in the nation-wide research poster competition organized by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The competition was sponsored by IBM, Dow Chemical and Rockwell corporations. The prestigious annual award was presented this month at the SWE National Conference held in Long Beach, California. Samia carries out her doctoral dissertation research in Professor Alexander Balandin’s Nano-Device Laboratory (NDL). Her award-winning research presentation was dedicated to the physical modeling and computer simulation of heat transport in graphene nanostructures and graphene interconnects. Samia’s award is the forth one received by the electrical engineering students since 2007 (previous ones were given to Irene Calizo and Suchismita Ghosh). All awardees conducted their PhD dissertation research in NDL. The finalists for the SWE best research award were selected among many submissions nation-wide. The research posters were judged by the representatives of the leading high-tech companies, government agencies and university faculty.  With over 5,500 participants and 250 exhibitors in attendance, the SWE National Conference is the largest and most comprehensive technical career event for women engineers.
