Irene Calizo Awarded LLNL Engineering Directorate Technical Scholarship

Electrical Engineering graduate student Irene Calizo was selected as an Engineering Directorate Technical Scholar for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Irene, who works in Professor Alexander Balandin’s Nano-Device Laboratory, will spend a summer at the LLNL conducting nanotechnology and advanced materials related research. The Engineering Directorate program is designed to offer outstanding scholars the opportunity to compliment their academic endeavors by working in a world class scientific research environment with state-of-the-art facilities. In addition to research, the LLNL summer program includes participation in LLNL workshops and seminars. Irene’s doctoral dissertation research is focused on micro-Raman spectroscopic characterization of carbon-based materials and nanostructures such as graphene layers and nanocrystalline diamond thin films.
