Associate Professor Sheldon Tan, of the UCR Electrical Engineering Department has  a new research book “Advanced Model Order Reduction Techniques in VLSI Design” published by Cambridge University Press (ISBN: 978-0-521-86581-4).
Professor Tan is the first author of this book (Professor Lei He from UCLA is the co-author).  This book presents a systematic introduction to, and treatment of, the key compact modeling methods employed in reducing general linear circuits, which model the parasitic interconnect circuits in VLSI design.  Compact modeling is to represent a large and complicated system with a smaller and simple system (model) such that the two systems exhibit similar behaviors from some observable ports. It can significantly improve the verification efficiency of VLSI circuits in the nanometer regime by replacing large unavoidable parasitic interconnect circuits using simple compact models.
The new book consists of my recent research works performed by Professor Tan’s group at UCR and Prof He’s group at UCLA. The new book follows a review of traditional projection-based techniques, coverage progresses to advanced 'state-of-the-art' MOR methods for VLSI design, including HMOR, passive truncated balanced realization (TBR) methods, efficient inductance modeling via the VPEC model, and structure-preserving MOR techniques. With practical examples and over 100 illustrations, this book is suitable for researchers and graduate students of electrical and computer engineering, as well as practitioners working in the VLSI design industry.
