Professor Sheldon Tan wins NSF award for internationally collaborative research

Electrical Engineering Professor Sheldon Tan received a $150K grant from National Science Foundation for his collaborative research work with Tsinghua University, China. The fund supports three years of collaborative research work and educational activities between UCR’s Mixed-Signal Nanometer VLSI Research Lab (directed by Professor Tan) and Design Automation Lab at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. US students will work with researchers at Tsinghua University to jointly attack the grand challenges of designing and verifying silicon-based nanometer VLSI systems. The collaborative research projects will focus on the efficient compact modeling and fast simulation for high-speed interconnect circuits considering manufacture and operational variations in nanometer silicon systems. US students will jointly develop new terminal and model order reduction techniques, and statistical simulation and modeling methods for the design and optimization of high-speed interconnects and VLSI on-chip power and clock delivery networks. The proposed collaborative educational and research activities will provide unique training, mentoring, networking and intellectual development opportunities for students at UCR.
