EE Graduate Student Manu Shamsa wins Materials Research Society Best Poster....

Electrical Engineering graduate student Manu Shamsa won the Best Poster Award at the Materials Research Society (MRS) Spring Meeting. The award was given at the Symposium on Materials and Technology of Dielectrics and Interconnects. MRS Spring Meeting, held every year in San Francisco, is the world’s largest forum for scientists and engineers who work in the materials and nanotechnology related fields. Shamsa, a graduate research assistant in Professor Alexander Balandin's Nano-Device Laboratory (NDL), presented a poster entitled Modeling of the Thermal Conduction Mechanisms in Amorphous Inter-Layer Dielectrics. The presented research has been done in collaboration with researchers from Intel Corporation, Hillsboro, Oregon. The joint UCR - Intel project was initiated during Shamsa's summer internship at Intel’s laboratory in Hillsboro. The focus of research performed at Intel and NDL is optimization of heat removal from a new generation of computer chips.
