Raytheon donates $20,000 for Professor Balandin's research

Raytheon Vision Systems donated $20,000 to support experimental research work in Professor Balandin's Nano-Device Laboratory (NDL). The gift from the Raytheon Vision System (located in Goleta, California) came as a result of on-going cooperation between Professor Balandin's research group and Raytheon engineers in the field of material characterization. In this project the NDL researchers are developing new Raman spectroscopy-based approaches for assessment of the material quality. Professor Balandin's lab features the state-of-the-art micro-Raman spectroscopic equipment (acquired with ~$300,000 ONR grant), which allows one to take data under the visible and UV laser excitation in the temperature range from 77K to 600K. The equipment will be used jointly by Raytheon engineers and NDL researchers for assessment of the quality of novel materials and heterostructures.
