Barth Receives IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Outstanding Research Award

November 17, 2016

The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Intelligent Transportation System Society recently awarded CE-CERT Director and Professor Matthew Barth with its 2016 Outstanding Research Award. The IEEE ITS society confers annually the Outstanding Research Award to honor researchers who have made significant research contributions over the years to ITS-related fields. The award was established in 2005 to recognize, promote and publicize major research contributions, including application innovations with real-world impact.

Professor Barth was selected in recognition of an exceptional and influential record of research, education and scholarly contributions to Environmentally-Focused Intelligent Transportation Systems. Over the years, Professor Barth has pioneered specific ITS applications and techniques that are aimed at reducing both criteria pollutant emissions and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as those reducing fuel economy. Several of these ITS applications include environmentally-friendly navigation techniques (Barth received a patent on eco-routing with colleague Kanok Boriboonsomsin), dynamic eco-driving algorithms, and eco-traffic signal solution
