Abstract

In modern heterogeneous wireless networks, the task of supporting fairness along with user priorities and concurrently achieving the highest possible system throughput is desirable and challenging. In this talk, the cumulative distribution function (CDF) based scheduling technique is discussed along with its applications to wireless networks. In particular, a practical CDF based scheduling algorithms is discussed to achieve these goals. The mapping from channel quality information (CQI) to the real CDF is unknown but is constructed exploiting the order statistics of the CQI sequence. The constructed CDF mapping method is shown to converge to the actual CDF.   The resulting scheduling algorithm is shown to frequently outperform, and is a potential alternatives to, the well-known Proportional Fair (PF) scheduling method. The CDF approach is also shown to provide a distributed and effective approach for developing a threshold based reduced feedback technique.

 

Biography

Bhaskar D. Rao received the B.Tech. degree in electronics and electrical communication engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, in 1979, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 1981 and 1983, respectively. Since 1983, he has been with the University of California, San Diego, where he is currently an Ericsson endowed  Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department. He is a Fellow of IEEE. His interests are in the areas of digital signal processing, machine learning, and optimization theory, with applications to digital communications and speech signal processing.
