Prof. Ilya Lyubomirsky is part of an industry team that demonstrated a
Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) transmitter with a 400-Gb/s capacity. This
was achieved by combining innovation in InP large-scale photonic integration
with an advanced multi-level optical modulation technique. The research
results where presented recently at the prestigious post-deadline session of
the Optical Fiber Communication Conference, San Diego, Feb. 2008.
In a related development, Prof. Lyubomirsky's group at UCR recently
demonstrated a novel optical DQPSK receiver with a greatly enhanced
tolerance to fiber chromatic dispersion. Their paper was accepted "without
revision" in IEEE Phot. Tech. Lett. A pre-print can be downloaded at this
link.
