Electrical engineering students Irene Calizo and Suchismita Ghosh were awarded the Graduate Dean Dissertation Fellowship and Graduate Research Fellowships, respectively. The graduate student fellows were selected in a campus-wide competition, which took into account the quality of the students’ dissertation research and their academic standing. Irene and Suchismita are the third-year graduate students and PhD candidates. Irene carries out experimental research focused on the micro-Raman spectroscopy of graphene, which is a recently discovered new form of carbon. Suchismita investigates heat conduction in graphene and other low-dimensional materials. Graphene materials are promising for electronic and thermal management applications. More about Irene’s and Suchismita’s research can be found at the Nano-Device Laboratory (NDL) web-site at http://ndl.ee.ucr.edu/.
