Title:  Peak to Average power reduction in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing

Abstract:  Multi-carrier modulation, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is widely deployed in high speed data communications, due to its ability to efficiently handle the distortions introduced by frequency selective fading channels. Due to the summation of OFDM sub carriers at the transmitter, the time domain OFDM symbol could exhibit large envelope variations during high correlations. This is characterized by a large peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Due to high PAPR, the digital-to-analog converter and Power amplifier of the transmitter would require a large dynamic range to avoid amplitude clipping, thus increasing Power consumption and cost of the transceiver. My thesis investigates various methods pertaining to PAPR reduction.
